Cloudways alternative

A Cloudways alternative when you want sites, not servers

Cloudways is a separate company. WPHost is not affiliated with it. Cloudways is a panel on top of a cloud server you still size, patch around, and fill with sites. Agencies that are tired of that server are the ones this page is for.

You are not buying a server

There is no instance size to pick and no server dashboard to share with a client. You create a WordPress site. It receives its own database and files. PHP 8.4 is the runtime for every site.

Business is $149 a month, or $1,490 once a year ($124.17 a month, two months free). Starter is $9, Pro is $30, and Scale is $65. Cancel any time.

The agency parts

  • Each WordPress site has its own MySQL database, its own files, and its own web server site.
  • PHP 8.4, automatic HTTPS on the preview address, and a custom domain when DNS points here.
  • One dashboard and one bill. Client access is an invite with the editor or viewer role, not the agency password. Billing stays on the agency account.
  • Pro and above include staging copies, CLI deploy, and scheduled tasks. Pro and Scale include up to 10 team members.
  • Scale and Business check uptime every five minutes and email the owner only when a site changes between up and down.
  • Business is unlimited WordPress sites, unlimited team members and client logins, and a free migration of each eligible client site.
  • A recovery point stores that site’s files and database together, and it can be restored. You take it when you want one. It is not a daily backup job.

A honest gap

Cloudways lets you choose a cloud provider, a region, and a server stack. WPHost does not. If a client contract requires a named region or a server you can SSH into, stay where you are. There is no SSH product here.

  • There is no built-in CDN, page cache, or object cache.
  • There is no malware scanner, no automatic plugin updates, and no email hosting. Leave MX records where they are.
  • Support is a person answering the ticket. There is no coded response-time promise.
  • There is no SSH product and no multisite move. WooCommerce can run as PHP and MySQL. There is no dedicated checkout SLA.

What happens under load

Business does not apply a visit cap. A spike does not create an overage invoice. The site does not get its own private PHP capacity either. Extra checkout capacity for WooCommerce is not a separate pool. Test a busy store on the preview before you promise the client anything about peaks.

Migration

The path is the same as any other WordPress host: files, database, preview, then DNS. Eligible Business sites are moved for you.

Questions

Can I SSH into the server?

No. SSH is not a product on any plan. Management is the dashboard, the client invite, staging on Pro and above, and the CLI on Pro and above.

Do I share PHP with other customers?

PHP 8.4 is one runtime. Each site still has its own database, files, and web server site. We do not call that a private server.

Is this cheaper than every Cloudways server?

No. A small Cloudways server can cost less than Business. The comparison is an agency that would otherwise keep upsizing a server, or keep adding servers, for a list of client sites.
